FOR SALE 1978 VOLKSWAGEN KOMBI 2000L IMPORTED FROM SOUTH AFRICA
A very good condition right hand drive 1978 Volkswagen Kombi/Microbus (2nd Generation Type 2 “Late Bay”) with a rare, original 2.0 Litre Petrol Type 4 engine (70 BHP) with twin carb. Only 2 previous owners and imported by Retro Campers Norfolk from the Orange Free State area of South Africa in December 2021. The Orange Free State enjoys a hot/dry climate, so this Kombi has not been exposed to damp/salty air.
Other than some minor surface rust and a few dents and scratches, this Kombi is in very good condition with only one small rust area that needs attention. It is very solid underneath with straight/solid panels and a 100% original good condition interior with original bench seats. There is evidence of the original colour being light blue on the bottom half. There is no evidence of any previous welding.
The vehicle is fully registered in the UK (Reg YBA 301S) and has black and silver classic number plates attached. The vehicle has also just had a very thorough inspection and service by a specialist classic VW mechanic (costing £1,150.80 and an itemised invoice is available on request). The vehicle passed its MOT with one minor oil leak that has subsequently been repaired. The vehicle will be sold as seen and our mechanic can be contacted as a reference.
In our opinion it makes the perfect solid base vehicle for a full campervan conversion project. With its 2.0 L engine, the vehicle has a strong engine that will easily maintain 50-60 mph, making it perfect for family holidays in a campervan conversion or as a recreational bus seating 8 people.
As part of the shipping process, this vehicle has been fully checked and verified to confirm an original engine number and VIN (Vehicle Identification Number) that matches the registration documents supplied with the vehicle.
Note: We could potentially offer a conversion service complete with bodywork repairs, re-spray to a colour of choice, pop-top roof and an interior camper conversion kit of choice. These works could be completed by our proven specialist suppliers and managed by us on a project management fee.
